Lecture Notes:

These are copies of my class notes for Astronomy 101 (Centenary) and Physics 215 (Auburn). Some material is from the text used for Astronomy 101 (Chaisson and McMillan), but the bulk of the material was originally organized for the Physics 215 course at Auburn (Franknoi, Morrison, and Wolff).

If I have time I will revise and update the notes, but I hope they are useful in their current form. A pdf viewer is necessary to view these files. A Free pdf viewer can be downloaded from the Adobe Acrobat web site:

These notes are keyed to the textbook used at Auburn University, so the order of the material is not quite the same as Chaisson and McMillan. The material in the lectures though is essentially the same and the order is close enough to the book that the notes are valuable. The test review sheets are for the Auburn class and are not necessarily the review sheet for the Centenary tests! We will cover stellar evolution before studying the galaxy for example, so be warned. As an experiment I have added some slides developed for the lecture at Centenary. These require powerpoint and may be too large to be useful off the local network.
